The water management works at Oroklini Lake have been completed - October 2014

During late September 2014, BirdLife Cyprus completed the second and final round of management works on site as part of the LIFE Oroklini project. These works included the creation of a nesting islet in the north part of the Oroklini Lake, the installation of an eel pass, cutting of expanding reeds and a water control structure that will allow the reduction of water levels in the north part of the Lake during spring in case of a flood event.

The works aim at improving the nesting habitat of the two important bird species for Oroklini Lake, the Spur-winged Lapwing and the Black-winged Stilt. If birds nest on the new nesting islet, visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy the whole procedure of nesting and hatching from the Information Kiosk.
